Calling All DIY Baddies
Do you fancy yourself a bedroom MacGyver?
The world might be your oyster when it comes to what you could buy and what you could make for your naughty bedroom play, but it’s best not to muddy those waters by being too ambitious with your inventing or skirting some not-so-safe boundaries.
Um, Where Are You Going To Put That?
As expert sex lecturer M. Christian so succinctly cautions in this piece, it’s so much safer creating a toy “to be used on a person rather than in them.” Safety First is the #1 rule, and M. Christian explains the simple fact that anything that you are looking to insert, into yourself or a lover—dildos, butt plugs, anal beads, etc. are best left for the experts to make.
In recent years the introduction of Phthalate-free silicone and other hypoallergenic materials in sex toy manufacturing has marked a sure (and needed) evolution. But too many different materials you might find around the house can cause infections, tearing even; a whole host of problems that could affect you internally. And yes, even those made of organic materials.
So, again, it’s best to leave those kinds of toys built to ‘go in,’ out of your inventing.
So, What Should You Make?
M. Christian advises trying your DIY toys for spanking and other fun and flirty BDSM play. But again, as he says, and anybody would well agree, when making homemade stuff, proceed with caution. For instance, if you are thinking of making a homemade paddle, depending on how experienced you or your lover are in wielding and receiving swats, you should consider how thick or thin you might want to make your homemade swatter. Also, stay to non-exotic, untreated woods, as M. Christian says, and if you are going to stain your paddle, go for non-treated water-based stains.
Remember, wood is especially porous, and you never can get it completely free of germs. So, as any sex expert will advise, for this reason, and many others, it's best not to share your sex toys, no matter even if you want to show your invention off to the masses.
The Ties That Bind Should Not Be The Ties You Make
Just because bondage play falls under the above BDSM umbrella, don’t assume you are either adept enough to create items for this kind of play or can just use everyday items for naughty play, specifically restraints. While it might be very easy to just grab a bandana or some rope from the woodshed, you never know how or when a knot might slip, become too restrictive, impossible to unloosen, or how that cool-looking intricate set of straps you have fashioned for your play might cut off circulation quicker than you could ever imagine.
Again, seek toys made for bondage purposes, and conduct research to see what experts have to say about the topic. And when you have learned all you can…learn some more. Bondage games, as much fun as they might seem, are a specific kind of sex play you need to take seriously, using items made for that purpose.
Safety, Safety, and More Safety!
Surely you can be creative in your sex play, and you should! There are certainly some household items you can use, right as they are for some fun. For example, you could give your lover a little pat with the back of your hair bush, or see how much they like the feeling of an ice cube or two—but be very cautious when attempted to make a sex toy.
Remember, never make anything with the intent to insert it, ANYWHERE! Stay clear of homemade bondage items, and keep communication constant between your partner. For more fun sex tips make sure to visit Toychats.com, your pleasure destination.
