My verdict

After a long session with your favourite porn star pussy, the last thing on your mind is, “Damn, now I need to clean her out and make sure she’s dry.” That’s where the Pontus Diatomite Dry Stick steps in. Thanks to its naturally porous structure and excellent absorbent properties, it helps remove moisture from inside your sleeve after cleaning. It’s the perfect little accessory for removing leftover dampness, with the added bonus of helping to reduce odours. Even better, at such a dirt-cheap price, it’s an absolute no-brainer for anyone wanting to maximise the lifespan of their favourite toy.

Pros

Absorbs moisture from the inside of a sleeve to keep it dry and smell free
Simple design that does it job.
Entry level and cost effective.
Will fit almost any type of handheld masturbator.

Cons

Fragile and will break if dropped.

Design & Quality

Okay so this isn't exactly a sex toy and wont help get you off, however the Pontus Dry Stick is something that really everyone with a collection of masturbators should have in their arsenal. Everyone knows the deal here, you've finished busting a nut inside your favourite fake pussy, done you due diligence and cleaned it out, and dried it to the best of your ability. And you think yeah, this is safe to put away now...

The next thing you know a few days later your in the mood and you whip your toy out only to find that it wasn't completely dry and now has a subtle funk that is an instant turn off! No way your sticking your dick inside this musty old thing...

That's where a dry stick comes in, made of Diatomite a soft, siliceous sedimentary rock composed of the fossilized remains of diatoms (single-celled algae - yes I know this doesn't sound very sexy). Its porous structure and absorbent properties make it perfect for absorbing remnant moisture and acting as a deodorizer which is absolutely perfect for keeping your toys fresh and hygienic, especially since its something that your putting your dick into!

Getting to the point though, the Pontus stick is a white, powdery feeling stick that comes in three variants, with all three measuring 190mm long and 15mm in diameter, a beginner version reviewed here, and two others that come with a pointy tip. Both the beginner versions (the dry stick and dry pen) are noted to be quite fragile and will break if dropped from a height of 30cms, while the more expensive "Minoyaki" version is both slightly heavier and tougher and able to withstand drops from the same height. I do not see much advantage with the different tip designs however and assume that more contact with a sleeve is better.

Additionally through my research writing this review, I found out that there are some manufacturers of Diatomite sticks that contain asbestos, thankfully the Pontus versions do not and include certification! Contracting silicosis is really not a thing I want to be thinking about while drying my toys...

Experience and performance

Having a decent collection of masturbators I'm no stranger to the maintenance regime associated with these types of toys. I've previously always let them air dry over a floor vent for an hour or so to ensure that they were completely dry before storing away. In the name of science I pulled out my latest Fleshlight, went to town and once satisfied begun the arduous task of cleaning it out...

After rinsing with some warm soapy water and patting dry the outside, I begun the very easy task of inserting the dry stick into the canal. The instructions state that you are to gently press onto the outside to ensure that the stick is in contact with the entire interior surface. This step was a little trepidatious as I was concerned that I would snap the rod (thankfully this didn't happen), and after a few minutes I removed it to find that yes, the inside was now dry. So in that sense I'd call this a win.

The stick did however leave a small amount of white residue on the inside of the sleeve, it's not an issue for use but more just something of note.

I also tested keeping the stick in for longer and storing it away inserted. I don't recommend doing this! What ends up happening is that the stick itself absorbs the moisture, but then because it has nowhere to go the stick ends up wet, doesn't dry out and keeps the entire inside of the sleeve damp which is counter intuitive to its intended use. Your best bet is obviously to dry the outside, absorb the moisture inside and then let any remaining dampness air dry. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done well enough.

Materials and care

This thing is dead simple to care for, so long as you give the stick sufficient time to dry after using it its good to go for the next round. It really doesn't need to be cleaned or maintained as its only in contact with clean water.

Once your toy is sufficiently dry simply place the stick back into the cardboard case and store it away for its next use. To avoid the stick getting damaged I wrapped it again in bubble wrap but left a section open so that there was still airflow and it could dry.

I did find that there was a small amount of residue left after use, but this is no more than a thin layer of white power from the exterior of the stick which doesn't affect the feel of the toy or its use at all.

Packaging

The packaging was actually very nice and gave the feeling of a well designed premium product - especially since the stick could be considered a budget item at $15 AUD!

It comes in a heavy duty cardboard tube with a tamper proof seal sticker that easily rips as you twist the top. Inside the stick is neatly wrapped in bubble wrap to ensure there is no damage during transport and its secured in place with a Pontus sticker.

All product information is located on the exterior of the tube and includes some basic information about its use, details about the product and country of manufacture. No other documentation is included in the tube.

Price

Lets be honest, most masturbators aren't exactly cheap so anything that aids in their longevity of them is a win in my book, and at $15 AUD this really is a no-brainer purchase. The Pontus diatomite stick helps reduce the amount of moisture from hard to reach places inside your toys, reduces odours and overall aids in increasing the longevity and cleanliness of your sleeve. It’s a simple little accessory, but one that really helps keep your sleeve in tip-top condition, and ready for your next bang.
