My verdict

I love the care and detail the designers put into this product and I'm a pretty big fan of some of their other toys. But personally? It's a bit uninspired. I can't really fault it for that because it wasn't designed to be especially exciting. It was designed to be simple and it does that well. I have some issues with the bloated number of 'modes' it has, but in all fairness- that's a problem many vibrators have. All in all, I find that the ROMP: Hype is well priced and a quality toy. It's simple and beginner friendly. I just happen to not be the right customer for it. Whether or not you're the right customer is worth considering if you're thinking about trying this one out too.

A Classic Design

The ROMP Hype doesn't add anything particularly new or interesting to the table, but they say that you don't fix something that isn't broken. It's not too big, not too small. Not too strong, not too weak. The curved design makes it easy to hit that g-spot and it can certainly get the job done if you're not too picky with pleasure.

Is it the most mind-blowing toy ever? Definitely not. But if you're just starting out, the ROMP Hype is an unintimidating option that's easy to use and pleasant to the touch.

First Impressions

From an aesthetic point of view, I quite like the design. It's smooth, slick, modern, and simple.
The colors are bold but not too harsh, and the packaging itself is well designed. Even the instruction booklet I mostly ignored had a good amount of thought put into its layout and illustrations.

But the best part?
They include a pack of stickers in the box.

What can I say? I'm a simple little creature. I see a pack of included stickers and I'm immediately won over. They're a cute little addition to a product that already has plenty to appreciate. And the quality of the stickers aren't bad either- the illustrations are fun and they match well with the design aesthetic of the rest of the product.

It's a small thing, sure, but it shows attention to detail and a level of consideration for the quality of their product. These small little details are what makes an otherwise simple toy stand out-- just a little bit more.

Functionality

The ROMP: Hype boasts a whopping 6 different vibration modes and 4 different pattern modes. What's the difference between vibration modes and pattern modes? No idea. They all feel pretty similar and I've personally never been a fan of different modes on vibrators. I'm of the opinion that all you really need is a low setting and a high setting. Most of everything else just feels like bloat.

The total of 10 modes is all controlled by one single button. If you find yourself on a setting you enjoy and accidently press that button, you've got another 9 to scroll from. And since they all feel pretty similar, sometimes it leaves you wondering if the buttons are even working at all.

In a sense, the positioning of the buttons are both good and bad. The reason it's good is because it's easily reachable during play, so if you're so inclined, you can easily swap modes for variety. The reason it's bad is because it's so easily reachable that it's also quite easy to hit it accidently, leading to the scrolling issue I mentioned earlier. It takes you out of the mood a bit if you hit that button without meaning to.

I do also have to say that it's obviously not the most interesting toy in the world. There are hundreds of ones just like it and they all do the same things. It's great for beginners, but if you're looking for something more exciting in the bedroom, this one probably isn't the one for you. It's good at what it does- it just doesn't do all that much. It's honestly difficult to talk about because there's really just nothing to say about it. If you're adventurous, it's a toy you forget about after a couple uses. It's not good enough to be especially memorable but there's nothing functionally wrong with it. It's just unexciting because it's meant to be. I'm sure that if you're playing as a couple, things can get a lot more exciting, so that's certainly something to consider if you have the ROMP: Hype in mind. But if you're experienced with toys and are looking for something to use solo, then this just might not be the toy for you.

ROMP

This is actually the second toy I have from ROMP. The first toy I purchased was the Reverb, and it actually ended up being my favorite for reasons that would be off topic to go on about. In any case, I've had a couple experiences with this brand before and so I think I can tentatively say that their quality control is quite good. ROMP makes toys using high quality materials and considered design. Both toys I have feel good to use and have a good range of stimulation. They do have a tendency to overload their products with unnecessary modes and settings, but there could be worse issues to complain about.

Their pricing feels rather fair as well. They're a bit more expensive than some of the cheaper brands, but the difference is well worth the price. I've only used the Hype a couple times but my Reverb has seen some pretty heavy use over the past year, and I've not seen any sign of damage yet. Considering the quality of materials and the consideration they put into details, I wouldn't be surprised if ROMP toys outlast many of its cheaper competitors, which can make the price well worth it.
